Brad R. Balter currently serves as CEO and Founder of both Balter Capital Management and Balter Liquid Alternatives where he sets the strategic vision for both firms. At Balter Capital Management, Mr. Balter oversees the construction of customized hedge fund portfolios. Balter Liquid Alternatives, a subsidiary of Balter Capital Management, was founded in early 2013 to primarily offer institutional hedge fund strategies within a mutual fund structure. Prior to forming Balter Capital Management in 2006, Brad was Head of Multi-Strategy Hedge Fund Coverage and Managing Director of the Institutional Investor Group at Citigroup. From 1992 to 2001, Brad was a leading member of the PaineWebber Inc.’s (subsequently UBS) middle market fund coverage program, with primary responsibility for early stage hedge fund relationships.
Brad serves on the investment committees of the Boys and Girls Club of Boston and the Combined Jewish Philanthropies. He is a graduate of Williams College and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. He lives in Wellesley, Massachusetts with his wife Laura and three children, Sophie, Jake and Aden. He is also an avid student of the Hebrew language.

Since beginning his career in 1999, Jay has had extensive experience in both mutual fund and hedge fund investing. At Balter Liquid Alternatives (BLA), Jay is responsible for managing the firm’s mutual fund products and is also the Chief Operating Officer of the firm. He is a portfolio manager of each BLA Fund. Jay is a founding member of Balter Capital Management (BCM) having previously served as a Financial Analyst for Citigroup Global Markets, with responsibility for idea generation and facilitation of access to research related resources for hedge fund clients of the bank. From 2000 to 2004 Jay was an Investment Analyst and member of the Investment Committee at The Segalas Group, a New Canaan, CT based hedge fund. Prior to his work at The Segalas Group, Jay was a Private Placement Analyst at Citigroup’s Traveler Insurance Unit, where he focused on a broad number of sectors as it pertained to credit investments for Travelers portfolios. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a B.A. in Finance and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
Jay enjoys spending time with his wife, son and daughter who graciously accommodate his love/hate relationship with Ironman triathlons. Jay enjoys watching both the athletic and academic endeavors of his children, while savoring the consumption of fine IPAs in his downtime.

Ben began his investment career in 1998 and has experience in both mutual fund and hedge fund investing. At Balter Liquid Alternatives (BLA), Ben is responsible for managing the firm’s mutual fund products and is a portfolio manager of each BLA Fund. Ben has experience working for hedge fund allocators as well as directly within a hedge fund, which provides him a differentiated perspective of seeing hedge funds from both sides of the business. Prior to joining Balter Capital Management (BCM) in 2012, Ben was a Managing Director at Sabretooth Capital Management, LLC, a global multi-strategy hedge fund affiliated with Tiger Management. Prior to Ben’s time at Sabretooth he spent 10 years at Federal Street Advisors, a Boston based wealth management firm, leading their alternative investment research. At Federal Street, Ben was the portfolio manager for Federal Street’s Saltbox Partners, LP, an internal long/short equity hedge fund of funds. Prior to Federal Street Ben was an Analyst at Principal Financial Group and NQP Administration Services. He is a graduate of Bentley University with a B.S. and M.S. in Finance. Ben has earned the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designation.
When not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three boys. He is an accomplished youth soccer coach spending most weekends on the soccer field helping develop youth players.

Celicia is the Director of Research for Balter Liquid Alternatives (BLA), and is charged with identifying and sourcing ideas for potential sub-advisory relationships. Celicia has extensive experience conducting investment manager research across a wide variety of geographies and strategies since 2004. Prior to joining Balter Capital Management (BCM) in 2009, Celicia was responsible for hedge fund analysis at SCS Financial LLC, a Boston-based private wealth management firm and multi-family office. Celicia was dedicated to hedge fund research at SCS across all strategies and geographies. From 2004-2008, Celicia worked at Capital Management Advisors, a Geneva, Switzerland based hedge fund advisory and fund of hedge funds where she held primary responsibility for research of equity long/short, merger arbitrage and event driven hedge fund strategies. She is a graduate of Brandeis University, with a B.A. in Economics and has a degree from the Brandeis International Business School, with a M.A. in International Economics and Finance. Celicia is fluent in Chinese and Spanish.
Celicia enjoys traveling and is an avid snowboarder. She enjoys spending time with her family, and she and her husband are excited to get their two children on a snowboard so that they can resume chasing snow globally. She is constantly seeking new gastronomic experiences, is not shy about her love of sci-fi, and appreciates finding the silver lining in situations.
Rebecca is the Chief Compliance Officer for Balter Liquid Alternatives (BLA), Balter Capital Management (BCM), Invenomic Capital Management, and Midwood Capital Management. From 2010 to 2017, she was at Bain Capital, LP, most recently serving as a Compliance Director where she lead key initiatives and provided regulatory advice and support for various business units. From 2006 to 2010, Rebecca was a Compliance Associate at DG Capital Management where she was responsible for all day to day compliance activities. Previously, Rebecca was an Investment Accountant at SS&C Technologies and The Hartford Investment Management Company. Rebecca received her B.S. in Finance from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Rebecca enjoys spending time with her husband and two young sons, who keep her more than busy. After a long hiatus, she’s trying to get back on the slopes, and hopes to get her boys, with their boundless energy and love of the outdoors, hooked on skiing as well.
At Balter Liquid Alternatives (BLA), Julie is responsible for oversight of the daily operations of the firm, as well as managing external service provider relationships. Prior to joining the firm in 2014, Julie was an Investment Operations Associate at Panagora Asset Management where she maintained the cash and share reconciliation, corporate action processing, and monthly reconciliation of complex funds. She interacted daily with portfolio managers, coordinating trade processing, as well as resolving any equity or futures trade settlement issues. Before Panagora, Julie worked as a Fund Accountant at State Street Bank and Trust supporting a private equity client. She is a graduate of St. Lawrence University (NY) with a B.S. in Economics-Mathematics Combined and Minors in Spanish and Statistics.
Julie is a native of the Pacific Northwest, but now calls Boston home, rooting for all the Boston sports teams. When not watching any of the local professional teams, Julie can be found playing sports herself. She is a skier and avid soccer player, playing in many different intramural coed leagues. She is also a volunteer soccer coach with the non-profit organization, Soccer Without Borders.
Jack joined the operations team at BLA in 2015. Prior to joining BLA, Jack worked as an Analyst in the Complex Accounting Administration Group at The Bank of New York Mellon. Before Bank of New York Mellon, Jack worked as a Fund Accountant at State Street Bank and Trust supporting a private equity client. He is a graduate of The State University of New York at Geneseo with a B.A. in Economics, and holds an MBA from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Originally from Upstate New York, Jack participated in many outdoor activities including fishing, skiing, football and lacrosse. He continued playing lacrosse throughout college and will occasionally get out to try and convince himself he still has it. Most of his free time is spent with his wife and two daughters, and doing work on his house.
Mark joined the operations team at Balter Liquid Alternatives (BLA) in March 2017. Prior to joining BLA, Mark worked as a Hedge Fund Accountant at ALPS Alternative Investment Services, supporting several boutique hedge funds. Mark is a graduate of Bates College (ME) with a B.A. in Economics and Applied Mathematics concentrations. While at Bates, he was a relief pitcher on the baseball team for four years and helped jumpstart a Special Olympics initiative on campus.
Originally from the greater Boston area, Mark is a big Boston sports fan who loves traveling to see his teams play all over the country. Outside of work, he enjoys staying active and spending time with his friends and large extended family in the area.
Sarah serves as Office Manager for Balter Capital Management, its subsidiary, Balter Liquid Alternatives, and its affiliates, Invenomic Capital Management and Midwood Capital Management. She brings over a decade of administrative experience primarily served in executive and business operations support roles across multiple industries.
Sarah kickstarted her administrative career in 2007 as Executive Assistant and Office Manager for Dupoux Design, an interior design firm in New York. Most recently, she served as Executive Administrator for Goddard Technologies (Goddard), a leader in product design and development. In her position at Goddard, Sarah became heavily immersed in daily operations, eventually stepping up to take charge of the company’s Human Resources. She maintains a solutions-oriented mindset and has been deemed by her peers as highly organized and thorough within her various administrative roles.
Sarah is a lover of the arts, music and dance, and spending time outdoors in nature. A native to the North Shore of Massachusetts, she can typically be found on a beach or out on the ocean anytime the weather permits.
At Balter Liquid Alternatives (BLA), Bob is responsible for managing external client relationships within Institutional channels while leading the Product Specialist group, which focuses on bespoke investment and industry research on behalf of its clients.
Prior to joining BLA, Bob was a Sales Manager at Wells Fargo Asset Management, working within multiple channels focused on mutual funds and separate account strategies. Before that, he served as a Financial Advisor at CUNA Mutual, managing client assets in four branches throughout Southern Massachusetts. Bob also held the position of Regional Vice President in Texas with Evergreen Investments and in New England with Transamerica. He brings nearly 20 years of experience in the financial services industry.
Bob received his Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies in Business and Communications from Arizona State University. He is a CAIA Level 1 candidate and holds his FINRA Series 6, Series 7, Series 24, and Series 63 licenses.
When he’s not working, Bob loves spending time with his twins Joseph and Georgia, wife, and their terrier. He enjoys all sports but is limited to golf, skiing, and the occasional run on the courts.
McDonald joined Balter Liquid Alternatives (BLA) in November 2017 as a Business Development Associate. He is now a Product Specialist responsible for new business development and communication of BLA investment products primarily within the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast U.S.
Prior to joining BLA, Brian was a VP of Private Fund Research and Sales at Brighton House Associates, where he worked with hedge funds and private equity GPs and LPs. Before that, Brian led new business development for his group at State Street Global Advisors where he covered endowments and foundations in the Southeast U.S.
Brian is a graduate of Fairfield University with a B.S. in Finance and International Business. He is a CAIA Charterholder and holds FINRA Series 7 and Series 66 licenses.
Brian lives with his wife in Cambridge and enjoys traveling somewhere new internationally each year. When he is not working or traveling, Brian can be found playing pool, pickup basketball, or golf.
Cody Weik joined Balter Liquid Alternatives (BLA) in April 2016. As a Product Specialist, he is focused on cultivating relationships with Registered Investment Advisors, Family Offices, and other institutions primarily on the West Coast. He works on research projects concentrated on competitive analysis and trends in the asset management business.
Prior to joining BLA, Cody worked at Hatteras Funds as a Regional Sales Associate supporting business development and managing client relationships. Before that, he served as Financial Analyst in the Private Wealth Management Division of Goldman Sachs, as a part of The Ayco Company.
Cody obtained his M.B.A. at Union College and B.S. in Business Management from Indiana University, Bloomington. While at Indiana, he became a two-time Olympic Trial qualifier and served two years as captain of the perennial powerhouse swimming and diving team.
Cody is a native to Pennsylvania and has enjoyed his experiences living in and exploring six states over the past decade. In his free time, Cody can be found surfing, golfing, and enjoying the outdoors with his dog, Zoey.
David Kemmerer joined the Balter Liquid Alternatives (BLA) team in November 2018 as a Product Specialist. His focus is on cultivating relationships with Registered Investment Advisors (RIAs), Family Offices, and other institutions in New York, New Jersey, and portions of the Southeast and Midwest regions. Most recently, David worked as Senior Investment Product Analyst at MFS Investment Management where he provided subject matter expertise to Financial Advisors on fundamental and quantitative equity strategies. Before that, he served as a Regional Director at Natixis Global Associates. David obtained two master’s degrees, one in Business Administration and a second in Finance, from Northeastern University, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Lafayette College. David holds his FINRA Series 7, Series 63, and Series 65 licenses.
Originally from Tennessee, David is still trying to cope with the fact that very few people in Boston follow college football. When he’s not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three children.
Kevin Ross joined Balter Liquid Alternatives (BLA) in July 2015 as a Product Specialist. He is responsible for research projects focused on investment strategy, portfolio construction, and competitive analysis, with his client relationships primarily in the Northeast and Midwest.
Prior to joining BLA, Kevin was a Regional Associate with F‑Squared Investments. Before F-Squared, he was a Financial Services Professional with New York Life Insurance Company and NYLIFE Securities. Kevin is a graduate of Boston College with a B.S. in Management. He is a CAIA Level 2 candidate and holds the FINRA Series 6, Series 63, and Series 65 licenses.
Originally from Western Massachusetts, Kevin participated in many sports growing up including baseball, basketball, and golf. He’s still getting over coming up just one win shy of playing in the 2006 Babe Ruth World Series. His free time is spent with his wife, family, and friends.
Ali Motamed is the Managing Partner of Invenomic Capital Management, the Sub-adviser to the Balter Invenomic Fund. Prior to founding Invenomic, Ali was Co-Portfolio manager of the Boston Partners Long/Short Equity Fund. He was awarded Portfolio Manager of the Year in the Alternatives Category by Morningstar in 2014. Prior to joining Boston Partners, he was a member of the global mergers and acquisitions teams at Deutsche Bank and BT Wolfensohn. Mr. Motamed holds a B.A. degree in economics with a minor in accounting from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a M.B.A. degree from Harvard Business School. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. He has 17 years experience.
When he is not working, Ali enjoys spending time with his wife and four kids and participating in outdoor activities. Although he grew up in California, he has converted to a full fledged Boston sports fan and particularly enjoys cheering for the Celtics and Patriots.
Nathaniel (Nate) Victor is an Analyst at Invenomic Capital Management LP (Invenomic). He is responsible for covering equities across various sectors. Prior to joining Invenomic, Nate researched Internet stocks at UBS and was an Economist at General Motors.
Nate is a 2016 M.B.A. graduate of the Fuqua School of Business, Duke University where he managed the Reynolds Trust. He received an M.S. in Agriculture Economics from Michigan State University in 2012 and a B.A. in Economics from Kalamazoo College in 2009. Nate also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
When he is not researching stocks, Nate enjoys running along the Charles River in Boston, being involved with his local church, and exploring more of the Northeast’s state parks with his wife and their dog.
Paul Goncalves Jr., CFA is an Analyst at Invenomic Capital Management (Invenomic), where he is responsible for covering equity securities across multiple sectors. Paul began his career in investment management in 2003 after graduating from Connecticut College with a B.A. in Economics. Prior to joining Invenomic, he worked at KeyBanc Capital Markets in San Francisco covering the homebuilder and building products industries. Paul is a CFA charterholder and member of the CFA Society of Boston. In addition to his B.A. in Econimics, he earned an M.B.A. from Indiana University in 2011 as a double major in Finance and Accounting.
Outside of work, Paul enjoys outdoor activities, Boston sports teams, and international travel with his family.
David began his career in 1988 and has nearly 25 years of experience investing in companies in both the public and private equity markets. David has been an investor in value-oriented small-cap public companies since 2001. David serves as Portfolio Manager for Midwood Capital, which he founded in 2003 and is responsible for all aspects of the firm’s portfolio management and operations. Prior to founding Midwood, David was a Managing Director at Igoe Capital Partners, LLC (ICP), a hybrid public/private equity investment firm, where he co-managed all aspects of the fund with a primary emphasis on identifying investment opportunities and directing the firm’s research activities. Prior to joining ICP, David was a Vice President at GCC Investments, LLC, the private equity investment subsidiary of GC Companies, Inc. from 1997 to 2000. At GCC Investments, David was responsible for identifying, evaluating and executing later-stage growth equity investments and served on the board of directors of several portfolio companies. Prior to GCC, David worked as a Principal at The Parthenon Group, a strategy consulting firm in Boston, as a Summer Associate for McKinsey & Company, and as an Associate at Berkshire Partners, a leading private equity investment firm in Boston whose funds have totaled $16 billion under management. Before joining Berkshire, David worked as a Corporate Analyst in the Mergers & Acquisitions Department at Lehman Brothers. David received his MBA with High Distinction from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College where he was a Tuck Scholar. He holds a BA, summa cum laude, from Yale University and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
When not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. He is actively involved in organizing and coaching youth basketball in the Town of Brookline.
Mark Henry joined Midwood Capital Management (Midwood) in January 2017 as an Equity Research Analyst. Prior to joining Midwood, he was an Investment Analyst at Flatley Management Company, an institutional-size, single-family office where he focused on small and mid-cap companies primarily in the Consumer, Telecom/Media, and Industrial sectors. Mark received an MBA and BS in Finance from Providence College and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
Mark enjoys traveling to Portugal with his wife and her family, in addition to spending time with his family in Forest Hills, New York. In his spare time, he also enjoys playing backgammon, ping-pong, and basketball.
